What can I expect at my first appointment?

Short Answer

Your first visit is longer and more in-depth than a typical medical appointment. Expect a thorough conversation about your health history, current concerns, and goals — followed by a plan for any needed lab work, exams, or next steps.

Before the Visit

  • You’ll receive intake forms to complete in advance. The more thoroughly you fill them out, the more time we can spend on what matters in the visit itself.
  • Bring a current list of medications, supplements, and any recent lab results or imaging you’ve had done elsewhere.
  • Come with your top 2 or 3 concerns or goals in mind.

During the Visit

Most first appointments run 60–90 minutes. The clinician will:

  • Walk through your health history in detail — not just diagnoses, but how you’ve felt, what’s changed, and what’s worked or hasn’t.
  • Review medications, supplements, sleep, nutrition, stress, movement, and environment.
  • Perform a focused physical exam if appropriate.
  • Discuss what they’re observing and what questions they want to answer with labs or further evaluation.
  • Begin sketching a plan — sometimes including immediate steps you can act on right away.

After the Visit

  • You’ll typically leave with a sense of direction, any lab orders or referrals, and clarity on what happens next.
  • A follow-up visit is usually scheduled to review results and finalize the plan.
  • Our team is available between visits for questions about your plan.

What to Bring

  • A list of all medications and supplements with doses
  • Recent lab work or imaging (within the last 12 months, ideally)
  • A short list of your most important questions or concerns
  • Any relevant records from prior specialists

A Note on Pace

The first visit is the start of a relationship, not a complete diagnosis. Some answers take labs, time, and follow-up. We’ll tell you what we know, what we don’t yet, and how we plan to find out.
