Umbilical Cord MSC Exosomes for Hearing Loss

This study investigated whether exosomes from umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells could protect or restore the outer hair cells of the inner ear — the cells responsible for hearing that are commonly damaged in sensorineural hearing loss.

The findings showed that these exosomes were able to rescue hair cell loss, pointing to a possible new treatment for certain forms of hearing impairment. This is an exciting application of exosome therapy in an area with limited regenerative options.
